The Sully Market Bag



The Sully Market Bag


Needles- Size 11 Circular

Size 9 Circular


Yarn- Lily Sugar and Cream

2 skeins about 190 yards




THE BODY:

Use size 11 needles

Cast on 90 stitches using the longtail cast on

Be care not to twist stitches and join in the round.


Work in pattern for 11 inches

Pattern:


Round 1: Knit across

Round 2: *YO K2TOG*, repeat from * to * across

Round 3: Knit Across

Round 4: *YO K2TOG*, repeat from * to * across


THE BOTTOM OF BODY:

Round 1: Knit across

Round 2: *Work 8 stitches, K2tog*, repeat from *to * across

Round 3: Knit across

Round 4: *Work 7 Stitches, K2tog*, repeat from * to * across

Round 5: *Work 6 stitches, K2tog*, repeat from * to * across

Round 6: *Work 5 stitches, K2tog*, repeat from * to * across

Round 7: *Work 4 stitches, K2tog*, repeat from * to * across

Round 8: *Work 3 stitches, K2tog*, repeat from * to * across

Round 9: *Work 2 stitches, K2tog*, repeat from * to * across

Round 10: *Work 1 stitch, K2tog*, repeat from * to * across

Round 11: K2tog across


Cut yarn. Thread it through all stitches and pull up tight. Weave in all ends.


TOP OF BODY:


Change to size 9 needles


Pick up and knit 90 stitches around top of bag from cast on edge.


Knit across round (stockinette stitch) for 1.5 inches.


Knit 1x1 rib for next 1/2 inch.


Bind off in rib.



HANDLES:


Make 2:


Use size 9 needles

Cast on 10 stitches using the longtail cast on.


Knit in the following pattern for 14 inches:

Row 1 K2, Purl 6, K2

Row 2 Knit Across


Sew handles onto bag: (see picture for placement)


Weave in all ends!

Like the looks of the bag. A couple of questions, however. How much yardage? Size of completed bag? Also wondering about the pattern, noted it has a 4 round repeat. The last 2 rounds are the same as the first 2 rounds, so why not just repeat the 2 rounds? Thanks, Fran

Love this bag! Question, when you do top of bag, the 1 1/2 inch is finished stitch garter or stockinette? I'm not sure if I'm to knit the whole 1 1/2 inch which would look like stockinette or knit one row, purl one row which would look like garter. Thank you
